After Toyota and Volkswagen, the Hyundai Motor Group has revealed its projected global sales for 2022, placing third globally with 6.848,200 new vehicle sold.

Among these, Hyundai Motor increased its global sales by 1.4 percent from 2021 to 3.944,600 units. Globally, Kia sold 2,903,600 vehicles each year, up 4.6 percent from 2021. Hyundai Motor Group saw growth in 2022 despite the challenging economic environment brought on by the global pandemic and issues with the supply of components and parts.

Based on the growth target for 2022, Hyundai Motor Group has set a sales growth target for 2023. Kia announced its 2023 worldwide sales target at 3.2 million units, while Hyundai Motor (including Genisex brand) set its 2023 global sales target at 4.321 million units.

In addition to increasing sales in 2022, Hyundai Motor Group made noteworthy strides in new industries like hydrogen energy, electrification, and future mobility.

Strive to reach the sales goal of 6,848,200 unit sold

Hyundai Motor sold 3.255.7 units outside of South Korea in 2022, with an increase of 2.9% from the previous year. This growth was made possible by the global auto market’s slow recovery and the competitive edge of its flagship and brand-new models. Hyundai Motor stated that in order to accomplish this aim, it will quicken the transition to electric vehicles, adapt its business strategy to changing market conditions, and remain robust. Optimize production, logistics, sales, and other business operations in each market in response to the global environmental system, and keep growing market share.

In 2022, sales of Kia, a another brand owned by the Hyundai Motor Group, grew steadily worldwide. Kia sold 541,100 units in its home market and 2,362,600 units outside of Korea, an increase of 5.4 percent over 2021. Model-wise, Kia SUVs are gaining popularity.

In 2023, Kia wants to sell 3.2 million cars worldwide. The goal is to sell 2,614,900 units outside of South Korea and 585,100 units within the country.

To achieve this goal, Kia will create a sound business expansion plan, create models with flexible usage scenarios, roll out customer-centric products and solutions, and keep up the sales momentum. Kia also intends to introduce vehicles like the EV9 in order to further improve its lineup of electric cars.

The path toward e-mobility and intelligence

In terms of electrification, Hyundai Motor Group achieved good results in 2022. Hyundai Motor’s IONIQ5 and Kia’s EV6, which are based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform dedicated to pure electric vehicles, won the 2022 World Car of the Year and European Car of the Year honors, respectively. It also ranks among the top five electric vehicles sold globally.

In 2023, the Hyundai Motor Group intends to introduce several completely new electric car types, including both light and flagship models. In terms of intelligence, Hyundai Motor Group plans to implement Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) for all its models by 2025, and will be equipped with OTA.

The group is also actively deploying new energy Reactors, including hydrogen power, power trading brokering and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). In addition, they will keep developing new materials for future mobility and accelerating the creation of safer, stronger steel goods, as well as continue to foster future growth engines.

With specific strategic objectives and preparations for implementation, Zheng Yixuan feels optimistic about 2023. He declared, “We need to react positively to changes and we are not afraid of chances. From crises, we will forge opportunities. Therefore, 2023 will be a year to establish trust, rise to the occasion, and achieve greatness via transformation. Together, we must overcome the challenging business climate and progress toward a better future.”
