All Chinese auto enthusiasts eagerly anticipated the all-new Civic Type-R (FL5), which made its domestic debut on December 20 in the evening. As 2022 came to a close, Dongfeng Honda delivered on its commitment to auto enthusiasts by releasing the new vehicle in China this year. This efficiency is remarkable given that the global release of FL5 has only been available for less than five months, and it’s clear how seriously Honda is treating the Chinese market.

However, the cost of FL5 is what prevents many from moving. The selling price of 420,000 yuan, and the land price will exceed 450,000 yuan as expected. It can be said that the price is a little too high. However, because this is an imported vehicle, the pricing is comparable to the worldwide market. Looking at the prices of FL5 in other countries: $42,895 in the United States. In Japan, it costs 4,997,300 yen (about 263,600 yuan). In the UK it costs £46,995-47,645. In the European Union, prices begin at 55,000 euros (about 407,200 yuan). It costs 72,600 Australian dollars in Australia. If you only consider bare-skin costs, the FL5 appears to be the most expensive in the mainstream market in China.

However, in the capacity of TYPE-R (FL5), as the first and last generation of pure gasoline in the country, focusing solely on price is incorrect. Because, aside from the price, I suppose you are more interested about the performance of this car, as well as the difference between our local listed models and foreign models. In fact, most people are concerned about how significant the change in motivation will be. GPF is fitted to the exhaust end of the new car to meet National VI B emission criteria. At the same time, the requirement to calibrate domestic oil products will result in a reduction in power.

At the same time, it is crucial to note that the domestic FL5 cannot go one second quicker than the FK8 in Suzuka for a variety of reasons, one of which is the tyres. As we all know, the domestic FL5, like the international version, has 19-inch matte black wheels, and the original factory tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, type 265 30 R19, which is broader and smaller than the FK8 245 30 R20. In Suzuka, however, H0 Cup2C, a modified Honda tire, is used to run one second faster than FK8. The data can be 2 seconds faster than on the PS4S. As a result, even if the power is restored to you, you will not be able to attain the same result in Suzuka. However, it is expected that H0 would be chosen as a competitive product for Chinese consumers in the future.

In terms of its appearance, due to the launch of the original imported car, there will be no difference between the overseas version and the domestic version. It is worth noting that this generation of Type-R manufacture returned to Japan and it can be considered real JDM. At the same time, the general design is extremely similar to the current Civic HATCHBACK, which was debuted in China alongside the Dongfeng Honda Civic HATCHBACK. They resemble twins in several aspects. However, it is easy to forecast that the future Civic HATCHBACK retrofit market will be very significant.

The FL5’s appearance is enhanced by a tailored body package for excellent aerodynamic performance. It also has a huge, black rear wing that is not the same color as the FK8, is lower and wider than the FK8, and can generate tremendous downforce at high speeds. The tail installation differs greatly from that of the FK8. The revised tail is supported by a lighter and less wind resistant black painted die-cast aluminum hollow bracket.

Overall, despite the fact that FL5 was introduced in China with some localization calibration, it retains the original essence of JDM. Although it may be a little lacking in inspiration, it is nonetheless quite popular. And next year, we’ll see a pure JMD – GR Yaris, and the two cars will also be a lot of people compared.
